Takata Airbag Injury Attorneys

Based in Denver, CO, We Serve Injured Clients Nationwide

Airbags are designed to save lives in the event of an auto accident. Unfortunately, defective airbags can lead to serious injuries and even death for a vehicle’s occupants. With roughly 42 million vehicles in the U.S. affected, Takata airbag defects have resulted in the largest ever automotive recall.

Vehicles manufactured by 19 automakers across multiple model years have been subject to recall due to safety concerns regarding Takata airbags. Learn more from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Takata Recall Spotlight if you think you were affected. Injuries caused by these airbags, which could deploy with too much force and cause shrapnel that injured vehicle occupants, can be serious. We can help victims make an injury claim.

If you or someone you care about was harmed due to an airbag defect, call The Gilbert Law Group® at (888) 711-5947 for a free review of your case.

Why Are Takata Airbags Being Recalled?

The defective airbags manufactured by Takata are a safety hazard because the inflator component can rupture when the airbag deploys, propelling metal and plastic debris into the passenger compartment. The defect is the result of the propellant within the airbag, which can deteriorate over time. Deterioration of the propellant increases internal pressure, making an explosive deployment more likely.

The defective airbags are found in both driver- and passenger-side frontal positions.

Some of the earliest Takata recalls were issued in regions like the southeastern United States and Hawaii because intense heat and humidity are believed to accelerate the propellant’s deterioration. However, many automakers have expanded their recalls nationwide.

Injuries Caused By Takata Airbag Defects

Shrapnel launched from the ruptured airbag housing travels at high speeds, posing a danger to a driver and their passengers. Victims have suffered severe injuries to their:

  • Face
  • Eyes
  • Nose
  • Neck

Sadly, some victims have passed away from the injuries caused by these metal and plastic shards. In one case, the trauma from the ruptured airbag was so extreme the police initially believed the victim had suffered a gunshot or stab wound. As of October 2020, America had seen 17 deaths and 200 injuries caused by these faulty airbags.
