As the holidays approach, toy safety becomes a top priority for parents. You want to give your child the latest toy that has been on their list all year, but you also want to make sure that your child stays safe at play.
In recent years, the federal government has taken action to help us keep children safe. For toys made for children under the age of 14, the federal toy safety standard in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 must be complied with. It is mandatory for toys that are designed and intended primarily for use by children 12 and under to be tested and certified by a third party.
Although these standards have undoubtedly saved many children from harm, over 250,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year for toy-related injuries.
We will be posting tips throughout the next couple of months as you are making your holiday toy purchases to help you make the safest choices for your child.
