CarMax promises consumers high quality, safe used cars without the hassle of haggling over pricing. CarMax is the largest retailer of used cars in the United States, and it advertises that all cars must pass a "rigorous 125+ point inspection" in order to be sold as "CarMax Quality Certified" cars. The company also claims on its website that "The CarMax Certified Quality Inspection means that your used vehicle will be in top condition when you buy it." But are you actually getting a safe car when you buy from CarMax?
ABC 20/20 went undercover to see what CarMax really provides customers. Despite assurance from a salesman that all of the cars on the lot had all major safety concerns addressed before being sold to customers, the reporter found many had been subject to recalls that had not been fixed.
Any time you are looking to buy a used car, make sure to check for recalls on the vehicle to keep your family safe.
