Giving back to our communities is a cornerstone of what we do here at The Gilbert Law Group®, P.C. After all, while we want to be the legal advocates our clients can rely on after they have been hurt by a negligent driver, we would much rather prefer that no one get into an accident in the first place. After teaming up with the Arvada Fire Protection District, we joined them at Ralston Valley High School recently to spread the word to students there about driving safety and the dangers of distracted driving as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Last weekend was the high school’s prom so we felt it was the prime opportunity to get the message of driving responsibility out there.
We began by creating a brief informational video that was shown throughout the week during the morning announcements. On Thursday, we brought in a police cruiser that had been wrecked by a distracted driver; Arvada Station 7 firefighters were there to explain how so much damage had occurred, and how it could have been easily prevented if negligence was taken out of the picture.
We also gave out brochures to take home and discuss with parents. We had thumb bands and specially colored nail polish the students were instructed to put on their “texting finger”, which they would hopefully see while reaching for their phone while driving and be reminded of the dangers of that behavior.
On Friday, we wanted to end the week with something more fun, something that a high school student would remember, so we set up a Good Times Ahead photobooth. Students could choose from props – steering wheels, mock coffee cups, etc. – and take a picture with their friends. If they uploaded their image to their Instagram account using #GoodTimesAheadDMTD, they were entered into a raffle to win a $50 iTunes gift card.
We believe the week was a huge success and we would like to extend our thanks once again to the Arvada Fire Protection District and everyone who got involved at Ralston Valley High School. Through education and honest effort, we can all do our part in putting an end to distracted driving accidents. If you would like to know more, feel free contact our law firm today.
