National Zofran® Birth Defect Lawyers
We Represent Families Whose Babies Were Harmed by Prescription Drugs
Zofran® is an anti-nausea medication sometimes used to treat morning sickness in expectant mothers. However, it is not FDA-approved for this use and has been linked to an increased risk of birth defects.
If you took Zofran during pregnancy and your baby was born with a birth defect, call our experienced lawyers at The Gilbert Law Group® today for a free consultation. We want to help you understand your family’s rights and ensure your child is taken care of. With decades of combined experience litigating cases against some of the biggest companies in America, we are ready to provide the strong representation you need.

Birth Defects Caused by Zofran
Children of women who took Zofran during pregnancy may suffer severe birth defects such as:
- Heart defects
- Cleft palate
- Kidney defects
- Musculoskeletal defects
- Fetal growth restriction
Sadly, these side effects are widespread: Researchers have found Zofran may double the risk of heart defects and cleft palate, and its use by a pregnant woman increases the likelihood her baby will have a birth defect by 30%. In the most extreme cases, Xarelto can also cause fetal death, a tragedy for an expectant mother and her partner.
Heart Defects Caused by Maternal Zofran Use
Heart defects that have been linked to Zofran include:
- Atrial Septal Defect, also known as a hole in the heart. This defect can lead to lung damage, poor blood oxygen levels, and life-threatening complications.
- Ventricular Septal Defect, or the formation of a hole in the wall separating the heart’s ventricles. The condition can cause oxygenated blood to mix with oxygen-poor blood, causing the heart to work harder.
- Heart Murmur, which is an atypical sound of the heartbeat. These injuries can be completely harmless (known as an innocent heart murmur) or abnormal, signaling congenital heart valve issues.
Making sure your child has access to all the care they need for a heart defect can be expensive. Such injuries are likely to have additional material and emotional impacts on your entire family as well. You deserve compensation if your baby’s heart was damaged after you took Zofran.
What Is a Cleft Palate?
A cleft palate is a birth defect involving a split in the roof of the mouth that can extend to the soft palate, or the back of the throat. A cleft lip is a split in the upper lip. Either defect can make feeding your infant difficult and lead to malnutrition. Multiple reconstructive surgeries are often necessary to correct these defects, which can mean high costs and a parent having to miss work as their child is treated.
